Our Story

Passion in Education

The story of UK Education Garden started back in 2009 when Melissa, the founder of UK Education Garden, had a strong passion for education and studied for a master's degree in education at the University of Cambridge.

With a particularly keen interest in child psychology and career education, Melissa researched how new school comers, especially late applicants in the UK from different family backgrounds, adapted to the new school environment. She looked at their difficulties and what could schools and parents could do to make it easier.

One of the songs that always echoed with Melissa in helping children grow was Greatest Love of All by Whitney Houston, and the lyrics went:

"I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be"

Classmates from different places

During her course, Melissa met a lot of classmates from all over the world doing their MBA at the renowned university. Most of them had successful businesses and lovely young families back home. They were mesmerised by the beauty of Cambridge and would like their children to experience education there as well.

Knowing Melissa having a solid education and careers education background, they approached Melissa to help them find schools for their loved ones. Over 8 years, Melissa helped countless families with school applications, job hunting, and moving to the UK.

Being appreciated

Just trying to help a few friends to start with, Melissa's effort and quality of work were highly recognised among her social circle, and families that Melissa helped believed her work was worth some good return. They were sure of her meticulous organisation, communication skills, and philosophy behind education would surely benefit families that would like to receive high-quality professional service for the best of their children's future.

Like attracts like

In 2019, Melissa met Dr. Lau at a Cambridge University alumni campaign gala in Hong Kong. The gala was a fundraiser to find sponsors for scholarships that could encourage more students to study at the university.

As an educator herself, Dr. Lau found her philosophy of nurturing the new generation clicked with Melissa's. Both wanted to help more students realise their full potential by accepting the challenge of studying overseas. Both believed that children could reach much higher and be more confident if they are guided the right way with good life attitudes and study skills.

Garden each family in with our education philosophy

Today, as founders, Melissa and Dr Lau's vision is very clear. They see each family they serve as a perch of vegetations in UK Education Garden, and the most rewarding outcome is to see happy families.

They concur that either just the children coming to study in the UK or the whole family coming to live in the UK, both parents and children are important stakeholders in this significant and emotional step. UK Education Garden endeavours to guide the children to appreciate and show gratitude to their family because only lucky children would have a family having the heart and resources to make it happen, to give them the best possible.

To show gratitude, they believe that action speaks louder than words. Melissa and Dr Lau would try all they can to lead the children to enjoy learning and harvest the fruit of learning. That is the best way to say thank you to their supportive family.

They are true believers in that when a child learnt how to learn; they would not be far from being successful. Just as the Proverbs goes:

Train up a child in the way he should go:

and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

                                                                                                              Proverbs 22:6
