UKEG IXL Independent Learning Programme
Autumn Term 2026
Programme Aim
The UKEG IXL Independent Learning Programme is designed to help students gradually develop stronger independent learning skills, rather than simply completing more academic exercises.
Throughout the Autumn Term, students will meet online every Tuesday during term time.
Weekly Lesson Structure
Part 1 – Independent Learning & Wellbeing (Approx. 20 minutes)
Each Tuesday will include a short, practical learning theme. Topics may include:
-
Time Management & Study Skills
-
How to organise homework and create a weekly study plan
-
How to set realistic learning goals & improve concentration
-
How to develop good study habits & prepare for tests
-
How to learn from mistakes and become a more independent learner
-
How to improve English, Maths, and study Science effectively
-
How to balance study, rest and extracurricular activities
-
Maintaining healthy routines: the importance of sleep, movement and breaks
-
Emotional wellbeing & how to manage everyday academic pressure
-
How to ask for help when learning becomes difficult
-
Building confidence and a positive approach towards learning
The purpose is not to give students too much information at once. Instead, each week will focus on one main theme, so students can understand it, practise it and gradually build stronger independent learning habits.
Part 2 – Individual IXL Learning
(Approx. 30 minutes)
For the second part of each session, every student will work independently on IXL. Before the online lesson, the tutor will review each student’s learning progress and prepare suitable activities for them across Maths, English, or Science.
The work will be selected according to the individual student’s age, current level and learning needs. This means students may be attending the same online session, but they will not necessarily be completing the same questions. The aim is personalised learning rather than one-size-fits-all teaching.
Our Core Principle
At UKEG, we believe that successful education is not simply about completing more worksheets or receiving more tutoring. One of the most valuable skills a young person can develop is the ability to plan, practise, reflect, improve and take increasing responsibility for their own learning.
UK Education Garden — Helping Students Learn How to Learn.
Each 50-minute session combines:
-
20 minutes – Independent Learning & Wellbeing Skills
-
30 minutes – Individual IXL Practice
The programme will focus on helping students become more organised, confident, healthy and increasingly responsible for their own learning.
Our Approach:
Progress, Not Competition
This programme is not about comparing one child with another. We recognise that every student has different strengths, learning speeds and areas for development. The tutor will therefore focus on each student’s individual progress through constructive encouragement and achievable next steps.
Examples of Tutor Feedback:
“You completed more practice consistently this week.”
“Your accuracy in this area has improved, and you kept trying even when questions became difficult.”
“This week, let us spend a little more time on fractions / vocabulary.”
Helping Students Reflect on Their Own Learning
Students will gradually be encouraged to ask themselves:
-
What did I do well this week?
-
What did I learn & what did I find difficult?
-
Where do I need more practice?
-
What is my goal for next week?
Our long-term goal is for students to gradually move from “My teacher tells me what to do” towards “I understand my own learning and know what I need to do next.”
Progress Monitoring & Parent Feedback:
Throughout the term, UKEG tutors will monitor participation, consistency of learning, IXL activity, study habits, time-management skills, and independent learning progress. Parents will also receive regular feedback designed to help families understand how the child is developing as an independent learner.
